NICOLE
Massey is very much into sustainable products and designing new ideas through recycled products. Sustainable products aren't always cheap for example bamboo which has a long life span. However, other ideas could involve plastics to create a products (less sustainable but still re purposed).
During early 2010 Trelise Cooper offered a new range of stylic eco bags. Her target audience was definitely females who on majority of occassions do the family shopping. Women want to present themselves in a certain way . Trelise captures this REFLECTIVE VALUES of the customer and creates a stylic, eco friendly product that can be reused over and over again.
Questions that need to be asked are :
How can we make a better product than what is on the market?
Through experience with different fabrics , a rubber bag could be trendy as it is black but also sustainable through rubber products being squished together .
Who is our target demographic ?
The target demographic is students aged between 18-22 years old at the Market Palace . Potential demographics include adults / lecturers and the public.
How much money are they willing to spend at the Market Palace ?
I estimate that majority of people will be bringing between $5-$15 max. The reality is that no one uses cash in order to buy things. So therefore the product must be relatively cheap to make or mass produce in bulk .
Everybody at Massey and even the Public has access to the 3 laser cutters at Massey University Wellington. They are located in the Museum block , Workshop and the Fabrication lab.
If we use the laser cutters (3x at Massey) how will we effectively create mass productions?
In order to reduce time two people could have access to the laser cutters at the same time ( the limited amount of time on the laser cutter is 1 hour each). The product shouldnt be too long as not all bags with have the same style etched onto them.
Laser Cutting Settings include
RED : for simple line rastering
BLUE : completely cutting out the shape ( which would be used the most to cut the shapes
BLACK : to create rastering on fabric to show depth or patterns.
No matter how clear or new you think an idea is , it probably isnt. I had a good though about recycling coffee sacks to make sturdy bags , however it has been done. Maybe the question needs to be how can we fix the 'holes' in this product? how can we make this better ?
