PROBLEMATIC 

CRITIQUE :

- Is this enough for a 12 week project ?
- How can we develop the staging area ?


 Nicole : One way we need to develop our project and push it forward is defining our bands. 
 I feel this project is going to take a lot of man-power and trust on the acts that they will actually come and not pull out last minute. 

We will be advertising the poster and MAWSA status updates closer to the time . 

We will be designing the theme around the event , props and making sure we have smooth transitions between acts.

Could the us as team members get into the spirit of things hand have full on costumes ?

Could we use laser cut coloured acrylic to create icons of tropicana ?

One saturday night i was walking through the basin reserve and saw that they were throwing out large chunks of turf so i called steph to come help me collect it for our tropicana / Coachella themes area .

However we are not fulling relying on them to give us a backdrop for our theme so we are going to create a screen printed backdrop.

Great Hall Positioning and Predicting Quality of Sound

GREAT HALL POSITIONING AND PREDICTING THE SOUND QUALITY  + TALKING TO DAVID PEARCE

NICOLE : I personally tried to contact David Pearce 3 times on his extension line to discuss the issue of the stage however he didn't pick up . 

Therefore, I ended up going to his office and asking him for a stage directly . We discussed how the Great Hall was booked and the idea for Club Tropicana . 

PROBLEMATIC

He agreed to lend us a stage however never took my name and told me to come back closer to the time of the event. 

This is a bit frustrating because in order to create a realistic gig we really need to provide the musicians with the equipment need to run a professional show

PROBLEMATIC

-A problematic issue that we will run into is the quality of sound produced / distorted by the echoes of the Great Hall !

-  We will be testing the quality of sound in different areas of the Great Hall.

- We don't want to be outside as it is a music scene and we want to be enticing therefore      we need to be inside , around other people and their stalls.

PROBLEMATIC:

-The overall opinion of the Great Hall is that no matter where we did sound checks the music was echoing and not receiving a great sound. 

-Even with over 50 Stalls and decorations in the Great Hall it still leave it 2/3 empty due to the ceiling allowing it to echo . 

-We would prefer to be place under on of the Cave of the Great Hall on the Right Hand Side

by the exit/ enterance way

- Being placed by the enterance way could be a health and safety issue - Contact Health and Safety team in Facilitators

Week 5 Cody Tucker sound check in the Great Hall for Market Palace

So that corner was the best but it sounded great!  We need to try claim that entrance way.

This is a crucial element if we want the music to not reverberate of the walls. 

One issue we are trying to resolve is the echoing caused by the high ceiling and four walls. Although the great hall will be filled with many objects and stalls we have managed to find a small covered area by the left hand side of the building.

As our event can't pay people we will try to offer additional services 

i.e. provide design of their poster of album cover as payment

Selling their EP on the Day 100 % profit to Drax Project

As the funds are small we were hoping to offer a service as selling their new EP for them to claim 100% of the profit. Also another ideas i had was to vinyl cut some golden stickers in the form of their logo.

PROBLEMATIC:

However after two attempts to contact them through close friends in ID year 4 and a Facebook message they don't seem to be interested this leaves us to find more acts !

This is slightly frustrating however they are a well known band who play for gigs that give them a down payment of $1000

Hopefully we continue to have success finding more bands and solo performers 

SOUND CHECK POSITIONING TESTS 

This is the ideal spot to have a stage , two reasons...

1) its stop/ minimises the echos from amps and voices 

2) it would not look clunky rather sleak and sophisticated in a small tucked away area where power cords and equipment will not be tripped on

-We tested in the lobby area of the grand hall however it was the exact same to being in the centre of the grand hall - echoed 

-We were quite keen on the idea of having a stage risen about the crowd that we could easily cover in black cloth and fairy lights to create dramatic scene .

-We have tried to contact david pearce about stage hireage

- Is there a possibility to get a bigger / hire stage ? 

- Is this all that Massey has avaliable to them ?

-Plants ! we want it to be cosy yet natural and plants provide a relaxed vibe 

- We want the scene to look full on and busy with things rather than empty and dull 

-The upper stairs area of the museum building is the perfect setting for quite busy yet calming and homely !

I've attached a first mood mockup which includes some items and layout ideas that we've been thinking about. We will develop this mockup as our idea develops...

For instance palates will not be involved due to the fact that they can not be tested for matter on them to see if they are safe or not.

Nicole - I work at Briscoes on Taranaki Street and I asked my boss Jenna If i could borrow or keep around 4 of the palates that Briscoes uses just not the bright blue palates as they are leased to Briscoes by a company

I've contacted a few musicians and also talked to Loz Wooton who is in charge of arranging musicians at Bodega. So far Aidan Kelly and Mimi Gilbert have said they are able to play.

Q - Is it possible to put down astro turf / fake grass in the Great Hall ? 

A - Nicole talked to the maintenance man of the Great Hall and he said it was perfectly        okay  and  it could be possible to just be safe and put down a blue tarpolen to stop the floor from getting scratched.

-How much space will we be given ? 

-Need to ask the Logistics team ! 

HOW CAN WE CREATE COMFORT AND BE INFORMATIVE ?

A fun and exciting way to give exposure to the performing arts is to laser cut it into chairs or put posters up . 

IS THIS POSSIBLE TO MAKE FOR THE SCENE ? 

BEAN BAGS ARE ALWAYS A SAFE AND EASY OPTION TO CREATE COMFORT 

AND MAKE A EASY AND APPROACHABLE AREA
